SRINAGAR: In a major crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical trafficking, the Drugs Control Organization of Jammu & Kashmir has intercepted and confiscated a consignment of 4,400 Tapentadol tablets being illicitly transported via a private courier service.
Based on specific intelligence and routine surveillance of courier networks, a team of Drugs Control Officers—Amit Mahajan and Amit Bali—under the supervision of Pankaj Malhotra, Assistant Drugs Controller (HQ), J&K, conducted a targeted inspection at a regional courier facility. During the operation, a suspicious parcel was identified and opened in the presence of authorized personnel.
Inside, authorities found 4,400 Tapentadol 100 mg tablets (TD NERV -100 Tablets), a centrally acting opioid analgesic often misused for intoxication by antisocial elements, concealed without proper documentation. The team seized the consignment immediately under Form-16, in accordance with the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the illicit supply was being funneled into J&K from a neighboring state, with the intent of illegal sale within the region. Efforts are ongoing to trace the origin and destination of the parcel, and the consignee’s details are being verified for potential legal action under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
Ms. Lotika Khajuria, State Drugs Controller, J&K, affirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating illegal drug trafficking. She announced that surveillance on courier services, transport agencies, and suspected pharmaceutical channels has been intensified, and violators will face strict legal action.
