JAMMU/SRINAGAR: The Traffic Police Headquarters of J&K has issued an advisory highlighting current traffic conditions, safety guidelines, and plans for the upcoming days on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other key routes amid ongoing weather and road conditions.
Current Traffic Situation (03-07-2025, 1700 hrs – 04-07-2025, 1600 hrs):
Traffic on NH-44 experienced slow movement due to breakdowns of three Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs), affecting single-lane traffic at Nashri-Dalwas and between Marog & Kishtwari Pather. Motorists are advised to exercise patience and remain alert.
Important Notices for Commuters:
– Identification: Commuters from Reasi, Katra, Udhampur, Patnitop, Doda, and Ramban are required to carry valid photo ID cards after the cutoff time from Jammu/Udhampur to facilitate smooth movement.
– Travel Timing: Passengers and LMV operators are advised to undertake journeys during daytime, especially between Ramban and Banihal, due to threat of falling stones and landslides.
– Perishable Goods & Livestock: Operators carrying fresh produce or live stock should load their vehicles as per official advisories and park at designated points before 9:00 am between Navyug Tunnel and Levdoora to ensure swift passage.
– Overloading & Fuel: HMVs are urged to avoid overloading, carry sufficient fuel, and ensure vehicle fitness before embarking on the journey. Vehicles with six or ten tires are permitted through Dhar road.
– Avoid Unnecessary Haltages: Especially between Ramban and Banihal near landslide zones, to prevent accidents.
Traffic Plan & Advisory for 05-07-2025:
Subject to favorable weather and road conditions, Sanjy convoy, LMVs, and private cars will be permitted from both sides of NH-44. HMVs will operate on alternate days, coordinated by TCU Jammu and TCU Ramban.
Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025:

Cut-off Timings for Vehicles:
– Jammu (Nagrota): 0600–1200 hrs
– Udhampur (Jakheni): 0700–1300 hrs
– Qazigund (towards Jammu): 1130–1400 hrs
Vehicles are not permitted to cross outside these timings. HMVs will be allowed from Navyug Tunnel (Qazigund) towards Jammu after assessing road conditions, with no HMVs permitted after 1900 hrs.
Special Provisions for Goods Vehicles & Yatra-Related Traffic:
– Trucks carrying perishable goods, LPG, petrol, diesel, or empty cylinders will use Mughal Road for return trips to Jammu, as per official advisories.
– To facilitate the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, vehicles loaded with perishable or essential goods are advised to load and park timely at designated spots before 9:00 am.
Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 & Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road:
– Subject to weather, LMVs and HPSVs will be allowed from both sides on NH-244 and the Sonamarg road at specified timings.
– No heavy vehicles other than designated HPSVs will be permitted as per orders.
Mughal Road & Other Routes:
– Under good weather conditions, LMVs and private cars will be permitted from both sides via Poonch. HMVs up to ten tires are allowed only from Shopian towards Poonch between 0700 and 1800 hrs.
