HAJIN: In continuation of the IEC) campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, Government Degree College (GDC) Hajin on Wednesday hosted an awareness programme aimed at sensitizing students about the growing threat of drug abuse.
The event, held at the college auditorium, was chaired by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Gazala Firdous, who highlighted the vital role of families and educational institutions in early identification and prevention of substance abuse. “It is crucial that parents remain observant and involved, as they are the first line of defense in identifying changes in their children’s behavior,” she said, while calling for stronger social bonds and value-based upbringing.
Speakers on the occasion urged students to serve as peer educators and community ambassadors in the fight against drug addiction. They stressed the need for collective action, community engagement, and informed dialogue to tackle the menace effectively.
Resource persons from various departments also spoke about the multifaceted impact of drug addiction—ranging from health deterioration to economic loss and social alienation—emphasizing that curbing this societal challenge requires sustained awareness and community cooperation.
The programme was attended by number of faculty members, officials, and students including Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din, Falak Firdous, Javid Ahmad, Nusrat Naseem, Dr. Firdous Ahmad, Dr. Rahi Rashid, Coordinator Mohammad Shafi Wagay,Showkat Ahmad project coordinator Drug addiction centre Bandipora, Ghulam Mohi ud din from Excise departnent ,Nazir Ahmad from the Youth Services and Sports Department, and ASI Abdul Hamid.
