Anjuman Auqaf condemns Mirwaiz’s house detention

Must read

SRINAGAR: Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid Srinagar expressed deep anguish and strong condemnation over the continued and “arbitrary” house detention of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq for the fourth consecutive Friday, preventing him from performing his religious and public duties at the historic Jama Masjid Srinagar.
“The repeated restrictions imposed on Mirwaiz are unjust and appear to be aimed not only at silencing his voice on vital issues of Muslims but also at weakening the central religious institutions of the valley—most notably the Jama Masjid. These actions cause immense hurt and distress to the Muslim community of Jammu & Kashmir and to all those who value justice, religious freedom, and democratic principles,” the Auqaf said in a statement.
It urged civil society groups, human rights bodies, and justice-seeking individuals to raise their voice against this “injustice”.
Meanwhile, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq expressed deep sorrow on the passing away of prominent Shia cleric and respected religious scholar Aga Syed Mohammad Baqir Al-Moosavi, terming his demise a great loss to the religious and scholarly circles of Jammu & Kashmir. Mirwaiz conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the entire community and prayed for the highest place for the departed soul in Jannat.
