NEW DELHI: The BCCI has introduced key rule changes for IPL 2025 after a captains’ meeting in Mumbai.

Here’s all you need to know before the first match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday.

Saliva Ban Lifted

Players can apply saliva on the ball again.

Originally banned in 2020 due to COVID-19.

Decision made after captains agreed.

Second New Ball Rule

A second new ball will be introduced in the second innings after 11 overs.

Only for night games to reduce dew impact.

Not applicable for day games.

Final call rests with the umpires.

No Match Bans for Slow Over-Rate

Captains won’t be banned for slow over-rates.

Instead, they will receive demerit points and fines.

Level 1: 25-75% match fee fine plus demerit points (valid for three years).

Level 2: Four demerit points.

DRS Expanded for Wides

DRS can now be used to review height wides.

DRS can also be used for wides outside off-stump.
