GANDERBAL: A gas cylinder leak followed by a low-intensity blast at the Animal Husbandry Department’s Sub Veterinary Center in Gund caused significant panic and injured an Artificial Insemination (AI) worker.
Officials said the incident occurred on Thursday morning when a gas cylinder, likely used for heating, began leaking inside the veterinary centre. The accumulating gas ignited, resulting in a minor blast that caused damage to the centre’s windows and doors.
Officials said that Yasir Ahmad Raina, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Raina a resident of Ramwari Gund, was present during the incident. He sustained burn injuries to his face and was immediately rushed to the Primary Health Center (PHC) in Gund for initial treatment.
They said due to the severity of his injuries, Yasir was referred to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura for specialized care.
Block Veterinary Officer Kangan, Dr Majid Tak, confirmed the incident, saying the extent of the damage to the veterinary centre is being assessed. ”
All possible assistance will be provided to the injured AI worker,” Dr Tak said, adding that Yasir is currently stable and is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.
