Rains lash Plains, MeT forecasts more

Srinagar: Rains lashed Srinagar and other plains of Kashmir Valley on Monday. Also the Meteorological department today forecast intermittent rains and snow in parts of Jammu and Kashmir till March 16.
An official said that there is a possibility of light rains and snow at scattered places of J&K from tonight. He said there is a possibility of light to moderate rains and snow over many higher reaches of J&K on March 10.
The official stated that from March 11 to 16, there is a possibility of intermittent light to moderate rains and snow at many places in Jammu and Kashmir.
He advised travelers, tourists and transporters to follow weather advisories being issued from administration and traffic department, and avoid sloppy and avalanche prone areas.
He also advised farmers to suspend farm operation from March 10 to 16.
Meanwhile, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is open for traffic from both sides today.
According to the Traffic Police, passenger vehicles are plying from both sides on the highway, while the HMVs are allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar.
The police have urged commuters to follow lane discipline, warning that overtaking could lead to congestion. The Traffic Police further advised passengers to travel on the highway during day time and avoid unnecessary halt between Ramban and Banihal, cautioning about the risk of landslides and shooting stones on the route.
Meanwhile the SSG road, Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, Mughal Road and Sinthan road are still closed for traffic.
