Srinagar: The holy month of Ramazan will begin in Jammu and Kashmir and the country on Sunday, as the crescent moon was not sighted tonight.
Grand Mufti Kashmir, Nasir ul Islam said the crescent moon was not sighted anywhere in Kashmir. Therefore, Ramazan will begin on March 2, he added.
In a communique, the Markaz-e-Chand Committee Lucknow said the crescent was not sighted today.
“The first of Ramazan will be on 2nd March, Sunday,” said the committee President Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi.
In a similar statement, Markaz-e-Royat-e-Hilal Committee Jama Masjid Delhi said the crescent moon was not sighted anywhere in India.
However, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries will begin fasting from Saturday as the crescent moon has been sighted there.
