SRINAGAR: In a significant academic development, Professor Arshad Hussain Mughal has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Forestry at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K).
Prof. Mughal, who previously served as Associate Director Research at SKUAST-K, brings with him 35 years of extensive experience in teaching, research, and extension activities in agriculture and forestry. He holds an M.Phil in Resource Management from the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal, and a Ph.D. in Forest Seed Technology from the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.
Over the years, Prof. Mughal has mentored around 15 M.Sc. and Ph.D. students and has an impressive research portfolio, with more than 85 publications in reputed national and international journals. A distinguished scientist, he has served as the Principal Investigator (PI) for the All India Coordinated Research Project on Agroforestry and the Network Project on Wild Apricot. Additionally, he has worked as PI and Co-PI in 11 research projects funded by various national agencies, contributing significantly to advancements in forestry and agroforestry.
He has held several key positions at SKUAST-K, including Programme Coordinator of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil, Scientist Incharge at the Mountain Agriculture Research Station in Kargil, Head of the Division of Social Basic Sciences and Humanities at the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, and Programme Coordinator and Head of KVK and Extension Centre Pulwama.
Prof. Mughal’s appointment is expected to bring dynamic leadership to the Faculty of Forestry, strengthening research, education, innovation, and outreach programs. His vast experience in forestry, agriculture, and allied sciences is anticipated to benefit the academic community and stakeholders associated with SKUAST-K.
