Dreams: Divine Signs Or Mere Reflection Of The Mind?

Must read

Dreams have fascinated humans for centuries, and in Islam. They hold a special significance. It is said that a true dream is the 46th part of prophecy, meaning that some dreams may contain divine guidance or messages. However, not all dreams fall into this category. Many dreams result from health issues, emotions, or daily experiences, so one should not be unnecessarily worried or troubled by their outcomes. Islamic teachings classify dreams into three main types:

  1. True Dreams (Ru’ya Sadiqa)

These dreams come from Allah and may serve as guidance, warnings, or glad tidings. Prophets and pious individuals often experience such dreams, but even ordinary believers may occasionally receive them.

  1. Dreams from the Nafs (Self)

These dreams reflect personal thoughts, emotions, and daily experiences. If someone is preoccupied with a certain matter, they may see related dreams without any deeper meaning.

  1. Dreams from Shaytan (Satanic Dreams)

These are disturbing or frightening dreams meant to cause fear and distress. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) advised that if someone sees a bad dream, they should seek refuge in Allah, avoid sharing it with others, and turn to the other side while sleeping.

Dreams and Health Conditions

Not all dreams are meaningful or spiritual in nature. Many are influenced by health conditions such as:

Gastritis & Indigestion: An upset stomach can cause unusual or disturbing dreams due to discomfort while sleeping.

Anxiety & Stress: Emotional distress can lead to nightmares or repetitive dreams related to one’s worries.

Depression: People suffering from depression may experience vivid, dark, or melancholic dreams.

Sleep Disorders: Conditions like sleep apnea and insomnia can also contribute to frequent and intense or fragmented dreaming.

Medical Treatment for Health-Related Dreams

If someone frequently experiences disturbing dreams due to health problems, it is essential to seek medical attention. Proper treatment of underlying conditions such as anxiety, depression, or digestive issues can significantly improve sleep quality and reduce unpleasant dreams. Consulting a doctor or therapist can help identify and address these concerns.

Since these dreams arise from physical or psychological states, they should not be given undue importance or cause distress.

Conclusion

While dreams hold a special place in Islam, not all of them carry divine messages. Some dreams arise from our subconscious mind, daily concerns, or health conditions. A believer should neither overly rejoice nor become distressed due to dreams. Instead, trust in Allah, maintain good health, and focus on righteous actions in waking life.
