Srinagar: A 6-year-old girl was claimed as latest victim by a mysterious disease in Badhaal village of Rajouri district. So far 14 people have died allegedly due to the mysterious disease and four of them succumbed in last 48 hours only, official sources said.
They said that the latest victim, the 6-year-old Safina Kousar daughter of Mohd Aslam died at SMGS hospital Jammu. The minor girl’s maternal uncle also died of the same disease on Monday last in GMC Rajouri, they said.
Meanwhile authorities said that in the wake of the tragic incident in Badhaal that claimed 14 lives of three families, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma, visited Kotranka to review the situation and ensure immediate administrative response.
Chairing a meeting with district officers, the Deputy Commissioner took stock of the samples collected for testing, including food, water, and other consumables, to determine the cause of the incident. He directed the concerned departments to expedite the analysis and implement necessary measures to prevent such occurrences.
Subsequently, the Deputy Commissioner visited Badhaal to interact with the affected families. He expressed his heartfelt condolences and assured them of all possible support from the administration in this difficult time.
Additionally, he alongwith officer from Food safety, agriculture, horticulture & other departments inspected nearby shops to verify compliance with safety and quality standards for consumables.
The meeting and visit were attended by ADDC Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa, ADC Dilmir Choudhary, SP Wajahat Hussain, Tehsildar Kotranka Syed Sahil Ali, Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), District Sheep Husbandry Officer (DSHO) and Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAH), among others.
