Traders Association Lal Chowk denies claims of merger with ad-hoc group

Must read

SRINAGAR: The Traders Association Lal Chowk has firmly rejected claims made by a faction of shopkeepers alleging a merger with an ad-hoc body representing another association. The longstanding association, which has been a pillar of trade in Lal Chowk since its founding in 1964, convened an emergency meeting on Sunday to address the controversy.
President Mohammad Iqbal Khan, who took office on March 9, 2024, led the meeting attended by all executive members. During this meeting, the association denounced the claims put forth by certain self-styled representatives, who are former members of an earlier executive body of the association, including positions such as president, vice president, and senior vice president.
“The assertions made by these individuals are baseless and intended to mislead both the government and the public,” Khan said. He assured members that the Traders Association Lal Chowk is fully committed to advocating for their interests and upholding the association’s credibility.
In a statement released after the meeting, the association called upon government authorities to disregard the self-proclaimed representatives and only engage with the duly elected officials of the Traders Association. “We urge all stakeholders to be cautious of misinformation and to recognize the legitimate authority of our elected representatives,” the statement read.
With a membership exceeding 450 shopkeepers, the Traders Association Lal Chowk has played a critical role in fostering economic growth and stability in the region. The organization emphasized its dedication to supporting its members against any attempts to undermine their interests.
In light of the recent developments, the Traders Association reaffirmed its mission of protecting the rights of local businesses while maintaining a strong and united front in the face of challenges. The organization called for continued collaboration and support to ensure the vibrancy and integrity of Lal Chowk’s business community.
