Er Ehtisham seeks action as Kashmiri students at Mewar University face assault, intimidation

SRINAGAR: “The plight of Kashmiri students at Mewar University, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, has reached an alarming level, as they are now reportedly facing physical assault and further intimidation in addition to academic negligence,” Er Ehtisham Khan, a renowned social and student rights activist, said on Monday. He expressed deep concern and outrage at the continued apathy towards these students’ futures.
Khan in a statement issued here said that despite repeated appeals to the Chief Ministers of Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir, and the Lieutenant Governor, the situation remains unresolved. “These students were enrolled under the Jammu and Kashmir Special Scholarship Scheme (JKSSS) in the B.Sc. Nursing program. They peacefully protested against the university’s failure to secure mandatory approvals from the Rajasthan Nursing Council (RNC) and Indian Nursing Council (INC),” he said.
Instead of resolving the core issues, the university has chosen punitive actions—suspensions, threats of deregistration, and now, physical assaults, Khan said. “It is unimaginable that our students, who are fighting for their basic right to education, are being subjected to physical harm. Their academic careers are hanging by a thread due to the system’s negligence,” he added.
Er Ehtisham has once again called on the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan Chief Minister to ensure the safety and protection of these students. “The government must act immediately to address this crisis—secure necessary approvals for the program or transfer these students to a recognized institution. Their future cannot be compromised any further.”
Khan also urged education authorities to hold Mewar University accountable for its administrative lapses and escalating harassment faced by the students. “The system must answer why these young individuals are being forced to endure physical and academic misery. Their voices cannot be silenced, and their futures must be protected without further delay,” he asserted.
