Forest fire in Gbl’s Gund sparks environmental concerns

Must read

GANDERBAL: A devastating forest fire has been sweeping through the Gund area for the past three days, posing a significant threat to the region’s environment, wildlife, and ecosystem. The blaze has sent shockwaves throughout the community, with many social and environmental activists expressing outrage and concern over the destruction.
A Forest Department official, who wished to remain anonymous, alleged that the fire was not a natural occurrence but the result of intentional acts by miscreants and anti-social elements. “These miscreants are setting fires to promote the growth of Morel Mushrooms (Gucci) during the next season,” he alleged.
The motives behind this destructive behaviour have been widely condemned by environmentalists, social activists, local residents, Civil Society Gund, and Jamia Awqaf Gund. “This reckless and destructive behaviour poses a threat to our environment, wildlife, and ecosystem,” said a social activist. “We cannot allow such irresponsible actions to go unchecked.”
The activist urged concerned officials to take immediate action to address the situation. “We request the authorities to identify these elements and bring them to justice,” the activist said. “Furthermore, we demand that immediate action be taken to prevent further forest fires and protect our natural resources.”
A senior social activist and journalist Beigh Irshad said the ongoing forest fire has not only ravaged the environment but also raised concerns about the safety of wildlife animals. “The situation demands prompt attention from the authorities to prevent further destruction and ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” he said.
