Ganderbal Press Association elects new leadership, Sofi Ayaz is President

GANDERBAL: Ganderbal Press Association (GPA) held its elections on Thursday at the Auditorium of Government Degree College Ganderbal. The election was characterized by a robust turnout and saw a competitive race among ten candidates vying for various leadership positions within the esteemed association.
The event drew active participation from journalists across the district, culminating in the casting of 36 votes, with one ballot left uncast. In a clear demonstration of confidence from his peers, Sofi Ayaz was elected as the new President of the Ganderbal Press Association. Alongside him, a team of dedicated individuals was elected to key roles, Raja Syed Rather secured the position of Vice President, Sabik Ali Sabik was elected General Secretary, and Basit Farooq was chosen as Treasurer.
Additionally, Aftab Mir was nominated as Chief Patron, while Hadi Hidayat will serve as the spokesperson for the association. The newly elected body took their oath to uphold the constitution and framework of the Ganderbal Press Association, pledging to prioritize the interests and integrity of journalism in the district.
Upon assuming his role, President Sofi Ayaz expressed a steadfast commitment to advocate for the rights and welfare of genuine journalists in Ganderbal. “The Ganderbal Press Association stands as a pillar of support for our journalistic community,” he asserted, emphasizing that the association will work tirelessly to uphold ethical journalism and offer a platform for the voices of the local press.
Following the elections, the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal Shayambir (IAS) met with the newly elected GPA leadership and praised the transparent and orderly election process. He commended the efforts put forth in organizing the event and congratulated the newly appointed officials on their success. “A strong and independent press is vital for promoting transparency, governance, and fostering public awareness, he remarked, assuring the GPA of his unwavering support.
