Check last date, how to update online, other important details
NEW DELHI: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is urging Aadhaar cardholders to review and update their details, especially those who obtained their Aadhaar over 10 years ago and have not made any updates since. Regular updates ensure accurate authentication, better service delivery, and enhanced ease of living.
While updating Aadhaar details is not mandatory, the UIDAI emphasises its importance for maintaining up-to-date records.
To facilitate this, the UIDAI has extended the deadline for free online updates to December 14, 2024, through the ‘myAadhaar’ portal. After this period, updates at Aadhaar centres will incur a nominal fee of Rs 50.
As per the Aadhaar Enrolment and Update Regulations, 2016, “An Aadhaar number holder may, on completion of every period of 10 years from the date of generation of the Aadhaar number assigned to him, update the documents or the information evidencing proof of identity and proof of address, at least once, by submitting an application.”
UIDAI recently posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th December 2024 to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on the ‘myAadhaar’ portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar.”
