JAMMU: The Government on Tuesday constituted a committee to review and monitor the existing and proposed wayside amenities, particularly the toilet facility along the major highways and other roads in the Union Territory.
The committee has been tasked to undertake comprehensive review of all existing and proposed/ upcoming/ under-development wayside amenities, especially toilets, along major roads/ highways/ road connecting tourism sites across J&K for assessing their physical as well as functional status and suggest steps for improvement. The review shall cover all wayside amenities with free public access, being maintained or developed by Tourism Department, NHAI, NHIDCL, BRO, PW(R&B) etc.
It has been also tasked with to suggest uniform distance and size norms vis-Ã -vis toilet complexes linked to the tentative numbers of daily commuters. It has been also asked to suggest a self-sustaining model for the functional maintenance of toilet complexes and have an inbuilt mechanism for regular physical and functional quality assessment.
