However, the four-hour-long search operation in the Sidhra bypass area was called off around noon after no explosive material was found, they said.
A party of the Special Operation Group (SOG) launched the search operation this morning after getting information that terrorists might have planted an improvised explosive device (IED) on the main road adjoining a famous temple.
Police parties along with a bomb disposal squad armed with metal detectors rushed to the scene and conducted a thorough search operation on both sides of the bypass road near Bajalta Morh and adjoining forest area, the officials said.
Meanwhile, Police along with other security forces busted a militant hideout in the forest area in Handwara and recovered ammunition and explosives, an official said.
“Acting on a specific input, Police along with Army (15 RR) and CRPF (92 Bn), launched a meticulous combing operation in the forest area of Mughalpora Kremhora falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Zachaldara,” a police spokesperson said, adding, “During the operation, a terrorist hideout was discovered, and a significant cache of explosives & ammunition, including 10 grenades were recovered from the site.” The recovered explosives, he said, have been safely seized for further investigation and legal proceedings.
