Says Security Apparatus Must Do Everything Possible To Check Spurt In Attacks
Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the grenade attack at a Sunday market in Srinagar that injured 11 people and said the security apparatus must do everything possible to check the spurt in terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir.
Two women were among the 11 civilians injured when militants threw a grenade towards a CRPF bunker near a crowded flea market in the heart of the city.
Abdullah said in a post on X, “The last few days have been dominated by headlines of attacks and encounters in parts of the Valley. Today’s news of a grenade attack on innocent shoppers at the Sunday market in Srinagar is deeply disturbing. There can be no justification for targeting innocent civilians.”
The Congress’ Jammu and Kashmir unit chief Tariq Hameed Karra also condemned the grenade attack.
“It is deeply disturbing to learn about the unfortunate and ghastly incident of a grenade attack on shopkeepers…,” Karra said.
“The Jammu and Kashmir Police must take effective measures to contain such brutal and inhuman attacks so that the public can move freely and without any fear,” he added.
He also prayed for a speedy recovery of the injured. (Agencies)
The Sunday market is a popular weekly flea market that attracts large crowds for winter shopping, making it especially busy on weekends. After the incident, the police cordoned off the area and launched an extensive search operation to track the attackers.
Meanwhile Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Chuadhary, accompanied by Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Masood today visited SMHS hospital here to inquire about the health of civilians injured in the Grenade attack at Sunday Market, Srinagar.
During the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister enquired about the condition of the injured. They directed the hospital authorities to provide them best possible treatment.
They also interacted with the injured persons and assured them of the best possible medical care to them.
MLA Sonawari Hilal Akbar Lone and other officers also accompanied the Ministers during the visit.
At least eleven civilians were injured in a grenade explosion at the crowded Sunday market in Srinagar. The grenade attack came a day after a senior commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba was killed in a day-long encounter in downtown Srinagar. Four security forces personnel were also injured in the encounter.
