SRINAGAR: In response to an alarming increase in suicide cases, particularly those involving individuals jumping into water bodies, the Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) has called on the government to accelerate the process of fencing all bridges in Srinagar.
KTA President Aijaz Shahdhar in a statement expressed support for the recent decision by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Srinagar to order the fencing of several key bridges in the city.
The bridges slated for fencing include Habba Kadal, Nawa Kadal, Fateh Kadal, Gow Kadal, Safakadal, and Noor Jahan Bridge in Qamarwari and other bridges across Srinagar.
“We welcome the DC Srinagar’s order to fence these crucial bridges,” Shahdhar stated. “This action is a step in the right direction to address the growing concern of suicides in our region.” The DC of Srinagar has set a deadline of September 10, 2024, to complete the fencing works.
