Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was arrested on Friday in Sarai Bala area of Srinagar where he was leading a protest rally after congregational prayers.
Witnesses said that a police party detained Malik after he tried to march towards Lal Chowk along with his supporters from Iqra Masjid to protest the killing of a student in firing by government forces in Ganaavpora village of Shopian earlier this week.
Joint Resistance leadership had given a shutdown call and called for peaceful protests on Friday against the killing of Adil Farooq, a student in Shopian district last week.
