Snow cavity accident: Local sledge rider missing, two tourists rescued in Sonamarg

SONAMARG: In Sonamarg, a local sledge rider went missing and two tourists were rescued after they fell into a snow cavity at the Thajwas Glacier.
Officials said that the incident occurred when the trio accidentally fell into the snow cavity.
The news quickly spread, prompting immediate rescue efforts. Locals at the scene, along with the police and other tourists, successfully rescued the two tourists. However, the local sledge rider, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Khan, son of Mohammad Yousuf Khan from Haknar Gund area, remains missing. A search and rescue operation is currently underway to locate and retrieve the missing sledge rider.
This incident comes just a week after a tourist from Maharashtra tragically died after falling into a similar snow cavity at the Thajwas Glacier. The recurring accidents highlight the dangers associated with the snow cavities in this popular tourist destination and underscore the urgent need for enhanced safety measures to protect visitors and local residents.
