PAMPORE: The district administration of Pulwama on Wednesday undertook the solemn task of airlifting the bodies of two non-local laborers who tragically lost their lives on May 8 when their boat capsized in the river Jhelum at Hatiwara, Pampore.
With utmost respect and care, the bodies were airlifted to their native place in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, ensuring they were reunited with their families, officials informed Kashmir Reader.
This noble gesture was carried out under the supervision of Naib Tehsildar Pampore, alongside a dedicated team, demonstrating a commitment to providing solace and support during challenging times.
Two non-local laborers went missing after a boat capsized in the river Jhelum in the Hatiwara area of Pampore last week. According to officials, eight non-local laborers and a local were onboard the boat, out of which seven have been rescued. They were engaged in agricultural work on the other side of the river.
The district administration of Pulwama swiftly responded by airlifting the bodies to their native places in Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, arrangements were made for one relative to accompany each deceased individual, ensuring their safe journey to their native villages and providing support to their grieving families.
Tehsildar Pampore, Malik Asif Ahmad, informed that the bodies were dispatched after completing all legal and medical formalities to Uttar Pradesh via a flight on Wednesday at 2 pm from Srinagar International airport.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Tehsildar Pampore, Malik Asif Ahmad, recounted the unfortunate boat incident on May 8 in Hatiwara, Pampore. He mentioned that while the majority were rescued, two non-local laborers went missing. Following the incident, rescue teams including SDRF, NDRF, and MARCOS, along with local volunteers, conducted extensive search operations, resulting in the recovery of the bodies of the deceased.
He further stated that both bodies were successfully recovered with the collaborative efforts of various teams deployed by the district administration, police administration, rescue teams, and local volunteers. Today, both the deceased’s bodies were airlifted and sent to their native villages for the final rites, he said.
