‘No such rule in BJP’: Shah’s clarification after Kejriwal claims Modi to retire next year

Must read

NEW DELHI: Shortly after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed that Modi, who will turn 75 next year will retire from active politics and that he is seeking votes to make Amit Shah the PM, the Home Minister himself issued a clarification, saying there is no such rule in the BJP.
“I want to say this to Arvind Kejriwal and company and INDI alliance that nothing as such is mentioned in BJP’s constitution. PM Modi is only going to complete this tenure and PM Modi will continue to lead the country in future. There is no confusion in BJP…,” Shah said at a press conference in Hyderabad.
His clarification came after Kejriwal, while addressing a press conference at AAP headquarters in Delhi, claimed that Modi will turn 75 in next September and retire from politics.
“I ask BJP, who is going to be your PM? He (Modi) is turning 75 next September. He is the one who made the rule that those who turn 75 had to retire. He has to retire next year. I ask BJP, who is your PM pick?” asked Kejriwal.
The AAP chief further added, “They retired LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sumitra Mahajan. He will retire next year. He is seeking votes for making Amit Shah the prime minister. Will Shah fulfill Modiji”s guarantee?”
Kejriwal also claimed that if the BJP wins, Modi will also remove Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath as he removed Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh.
Earlier, Congress leader and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had also asked the PM if the 75 year age limit will be applicable to him as well.
“He has decided 75 years as the age for retirement in the BJP for an elected representative. That is how he has forcefully taken decisions against LK Advani, Murali Manohar Joshi and senior leaders. Now that Narendra Modi is going to cross 74 years, one more year is left. I want to pose the same question to Narendra Modi. Are you ready to retire at the age of 75?” Reddy asked.
