Pampore: On Farmers’ National Day, marked by ceremonies across the country, farmers said various schemes of Central government are contributing to the progress of the agricultural sector.
A farmer from Pampore emphasized the significance of the Day for farmers, saying that attention should be given to agriculture. He highlighted the crucial role of a farmer who not only provides sustenance for the family but also contributes by supplying food to society.
Javaid Ahmad Ganaie, resident of Samboora Pampore, a progressive farmer with 25 years of diverse farming experience in various farming sectors such as Saffron, paddy, vegetables, and other agricultural activities, appeals to qualified youth to consider joining farming. He has pursued a BSc and became involved in farming, finding significant benefits in this sector.
Speaking to Kashmir Reader, Javaid said he ventured into farming in 1998 after completing his BSc. Since then, he has remained dedicated to farming, working alongside his father. “All our expenses, whether related to education, household or significant events like weddings or construction, are sustained by the income generated from our agricultural pursuits,” he said.
Ganaie added, “I feel it’s essential to convey a message to fellow farmers – we should connect well with our farming. Other farmers need awareness about the importance of staying connected to agriculture. Regardless of whether one is a doctor, engineer, teacher, or any other professional, it’s crucial not to distance oneself from farming. A farmer or ‘Anu Datta’ as we call them, supplies the entire nation, playing a vital role in our lives.”
Javai said he is actively engaged in diversified farming on his property. Whether it’s saffron farming, paddy, vegetables, mustard, or other crops, I am involved in various agricultural sectors, he said, adding, “I work with our cows and other animals, advancing together in different aspects of agriculture.”
On this farming day, I want to convey a message to those who can understand my voice: connect with farming, work hard and passionately in agriculture, Ganaie said, adding, “In today’s date, if we talk about rice, the prices have increased significantly. Currently, a quintal of rice is available in the market for five thousand rupees. In the upcoming days, these rates are expected to rise further. It’s a great opportunity for you in the farming sector.”
The farmer mentioned a “new vision’, the HADP (High-Density Apple Plantation), led by the Chief Secretary. “His (CS’s) vision is a dream that we will further enhance agriculture in Jammu and Kashmir. It is crucial to bring these schemes into implementation for the progress of the region,” he said.
On this national farming day, I want to convey a message to our educated youth and youngsters that they should consider entering the field of agriculture, he said, adding that there are numerous schemes in the Agriculture Department, including high-tech interventions.
