Pampore: In a decisive crackdown on illegal mineral extraction, the Geology and Mining Department Pulwama under the supervision of DMO Pulwama Er Mohammad Manzoor conducted night raids in several locations in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The team successfully seized a total of four JCB machines and 3 vehicles involved in unauthorized activities.
The extensive operation targeted areas including Charatang K.Kout Charsoo and Larkipora areas of Awantipora, where 3 JCB machines and 3 vehicles were seized on the spot. Additionally, another JCB machine was seized at Navnagri Pulwama, further emphasizing the widespread nature of the illicit mineral extraction, officials told Kashmir Reader.
The prompt response by the Geology and Mining Department Pulwama team was triggered by a complaint received via phone, leading to the apprehension of a JCB involved in illegal mineral extraction at Navnagri Pulwama, DMO Pulwama Er Mohammad Manzoor told Kashmir Reader.
The department has adopted a zero-tolerance against illegal mining, District Mineral Officer Pulwama said, adding that the drive against illegal mineral extraction and illegal mining of sand and boulders is going on in different areas of the Pulwama district.
The DMO Pulwama said that all of his team has been put on alert to monitor illegal mining in the district. He said all the illegal mining cases would be dealt with under the rules and all the things against the violators would be done by a fast-track system.
