GDC Pampore hosts debate on role of police in nation building

Pampore: In a noteworthy event, a debate competition focusing on “The Role of Police in Nation Building” was held at Government Degree College Pampore in South Kashmir’s Police district Awantipora. The program was organized collaboratively by the Police district Awantipora and the College Debates and Seminars Committee, aiming to create awareness among students about the crucial role of the police in national development.
The event witnessed a diverse group of participants, including police officials and students of the college. Notably, eight students actively engaged in the debate, with four arguing in favor of the motion and four against.
Sakeena Nisar (6th Semester), Shayan (3rd Semester), Mir Mohammad Wahid (6th Semester), and Danish (3rd Semester) comprised the team in favor of the motion, while Munazah Mushtaq (1st Semester), Rayees Nisar (1st Semester), Shariba Mushtaq (3rd Semester), Irshad Ahmad (3rd Semester), and Razia (1st Semester) formed the opposing team. The results of the competition saw Mir Shayan, Danish, and Irshad securing the first, second, and third positions, respectively.
The event commenced with Prof Hilal Bakshi, Acting Principal, addressing the audience on the program’s aims and objectives. He stressed the importance of creating awareness among students regarding the role of the police in nation building in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the debate, participants presented a wide range of perspectives on the theme, offering insights and anecdotes that captivated the audience. The event’s jury faced the challenging task of selecting the winners from the talented pool of debaters.
Following the debates, SDPO Pampore Krishan Rattan addressed the audience, responding to the arguments and claims raised by the debaters while shedding light on the daily routines of police life. Chief Guest SP Hilal Khaliq spoke in detail about the role of the police, drawing parallels between the police force and a family in which the head must maintain firmness for the larger benefit of the community. He urged students to collaborate with the police and participate in competitive exams to contribute to good governance and reform.
The event culminated with a felicitation ceremony in which winners and participants received certificates and trophies. Dr. Mudasir Qazi, Lecturer in Political Science, delivered a vote of thanks.
Dr. Iqbal Malik, HoD Islamic Studies, emphasized the program’s goal to bridge the gap between the police, students, and the public by dispelling misconceptions and misunderstandings. He highlighted the police’s role in addressing societal issues like drug abuse and corruption, emphasizing the need for collaboration to create a safer, better community.
One of the participating students, Munazah Mushtaq, underscored the positive experience during the debate competition. She praised the police for their commendable efforts in addressing societal problems, including drug-related issues and domestic violence. Munazah stressed the police’s vital role in providing support and security in various situations, promoting the idea of collaborative coexistence to build a better community for all.
