PAMPORE: Doctors at Sub District Hospital Pampore area of Pulwama district operated a rare case of Axillary Fibroadenoma, which is the first of its kind of surgery done in this southern district.
The surgery was conducted on a young female patient from Anantnag and was performed by Dr Nawab, Dr Younis, Dr Tajamul and Dr Hamid. The anesthetist, OT technologist and theatre technician included Nisar Ahmad, Abdul Gani and Mushtaq Ahmad.
The technical support and other facilities for conducting the surgery were provided by BMO Pampore, Dr Asima Nazir, officials said.
Talking to Kashmir Reader, Dr Nawab Khan, consultant surgery at SDH Pampore, said that a female patient of around 20 years of age present at the hospital with left axillary swelling. “The swelling was examined which appeared to be an axillary lipoma and the patient was advised FNAC which revealed it is auxiliary Fibroadenoma,” Dr Nawab said, adding that it is a rare entity.
He said only 40 cases of auxiliary fibroadenoma have been reported in the world so far. “There is a tissue outside the breasts in both males and females which is called accessory breast tissue or milk line. If any person notices swellings in the accessory breast tissue they should consult a doctor for their management,” he said.
The doctor further said that the swellings can develop infectious cysts or become malignant. The swellings are more common in females than in males, he said.
“So our female folk should realise that breast problems do occur outside the breast and if these are noticed then they must get a timely examination,” he said.
Dr Nawab said the operated patient is recovering and doing better. He thanked BMO Pampore Dr Asima Nazir for providing logistic support for performing the surgery.
