PAMPORE: Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substances from his possession in the Saffron Town Pampore area of police district Awantipora, officials said on Friday.
Continuing its drive against drug peddlers, a police party of Police Station Pampore headed by SHO Pampore Zahoor Ahmad under the Supervision of SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad arrested one drug peddler at Tulbagh Pampore.
The arrested drug peddler has been identified as Basir Manzoor Akhoon, son Manzoor Ahmad Akhoon, resident of Tulbagh Pampore, police officials told Kashmir Reader.
He told that the drug peddler was arrested when he was moving in suspicious circumstances in the Tulbagh area.
During the search, 1100 grams of contraband substances suspected to be cannabis powder Charas Powder were recovered from his possession.
The arrested drug peddler has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody, he said.
SDPO Pampore Mir Imtiyaz Ahmad urged the community members of Police Sub Division Pampore to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in the Pampore and Khrew areas. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law, he added.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he said, adding that a case FIR bearing number 48/2023 under relevant sections of NDPS stands registered in Police station Pampore.
