PAMPORE: An elderly man died on spot after an 33,000-volt high-tension wire fell on him while working in paddy fields at Wuyan village of Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.
A 60 year old man died after a high tension (HT) transmission Khrew-Wuyan line fell down on him at Wuyan village. The deceased was identified as Ghulam Mohammad Malik son of Wahab Malik, resident of Wuyan Pampore.
Locals told Kashmir Reader that the incident took place Thursday afternoon around 12.15 am when the deceased working in his paddy fields after a live high tension transmission wire suddenly got broken and fell on him, resulting in his on spot death.
Soon after the incident relatives, neighbours rushed to the spot but the man died.
The incident happened due to alleged negligence of the concerned department., the locals of the village alleged that the concerned department has failed to ensure safety of human lives.
They also appealed to administration and concerned department compensation to the poor family of the deceased.
“We are on the spot and are assessing the situation that has occured. The line was live till 12:21 Pm and the line at Pampore Grid station had technical snag by which the line skidded from the insulator leading to the mishap,“ AEE STD Lateef Ahmad told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the accident did not happen by any negligence and the family could be compensated as per the rules provided.
SHO Khrew Manzoor Ahmad confirmed the death of elderly man due to electrocution in the village.
On receiving information about the incident, Police Khrew reached the spot and recovered the body. Later it was sent to Sub District Hospital Pampore for Autopsy, SHO Khrew Manzoor Ahmad told Kashmir Reader.
The body was handed over to the family members for last rites after completion of legal formalities, SHO said.
Police have registered a case 174 CrPC and started investigation.
