Greening JK gains momentum: Plantation drives organised across Jammu division

SRINAGAR: The Greening Jammu and Kashmir programme launched by Governor Satyapal Malik on July 8 gained further momentum on Saturday with plantation programmes being organised by various Forest Divisions in Jammu, Reasi and Rajouri districts.
In Jammu, the Urban Forestry Division (UFD) conducted a plantation drive in Sector-A Sainik Colony Jammu in collaboration with the department of Floriculture. A total of 300 plants were planted in the presence of Narinder Singh, Corporator Sainik Colony, Col Harjinder Singh and Kamal Saini. The UFD also conducted another event at Sewerage Treatment Plant Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, where nearly 500 plants were planted in the presence of Mayor Jammu Chander Mohan Sharma, Corporator Bhagwati Nagar Pramod Kapahi, some social workers and local people. The UFD also conducted a plantation programme at Teachers Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar where Anuradha Gupta, Director School Education Department, social activist Chander Gupta and Education Department staff participated in the plantation of more than 100 plants.
In Reasi, the Reasi Forest Division organised a plantation drive at Bidda in a sacred groove where the local Sarpanch, Panchs and people joined with the forest staff and planted 70 saplings of various species like Peepal, Bargad, Kadamb, Bel, Chinar, etc. In Rajouri, the Rajouri Forest Division organised a programme in Government Primary School Kesargalla where a large number of locals participated while in another event, organised by Nowshera Forest Division at Government High School Dharamsal, Sunderbani, and Government Middle School Kantha, a plantation drive was conducted involving local people.
Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar applauded the progress of the plantation drive and encouraged the Forest officers to maintain the momentum. Commissioner Secretary Forests Manoj Kr Dwivedi also lauded the progress of plantation being conducted and encouraged the officers to take up the plantation programmes with universities and other institutions.
