SMC Commissioner reviews solid waste management, other issues

SRINAGAR: Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Commissioner (SMC) Khursheed Ahmed Sanai on Friday called a meeting to review solid waste management at central office Karan Nagar.
During the meeting, different components of solid waste management including the status of IHHL, CTPT, open defecation free, IEC and information communication technology were reviewed at length, a statement issued here said.
While discussing the waste segregation, it was informed that source segregation and door to door collection is being taken up in various wards and is improvising gradually.
Various issues with regard to improvisation of sanitation were discussed. Sanai impressed upon up-gradation of sweeping machines, dust clearing machines, water sprinkling machines and hopper vehicles for effective door to door collection of waste. He called for installation of more smart bins as per requirement in the city and procurement of grass cutters.
Commissioner SMC further directed immediate lifting of solid waste generated from desilting and cleaning of municipal drains for its disposal when required. Emphasis was also laid to ensure functioning of all fountains existing in the city and identification of new sites.
Sanai also reviewed development of parks, gardens, green belt non-open areas that fall within the jurisdiction of SMC.
On constructions, he passed on directions to the Chief Enforcement Officer along with ward officers to ensure there is proper covering of construction sites in order to avoid environmental pollution.
All the senior officers including Additional Commissioner SMC Nazir Ahmed Baba, Joint Commissioner Works Ishtiyaq Ahmed Shah, Chief Accounts Officer Ghulam Nabi Bhat, Health Officer SMC Javaid Ahmed Qazi, Deputy Director Planning Khurshid Ahmed, Exn Haqeem Firdous, Exn Itrat Naseem, Chief Sanitation Officer Syed Nisar and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
