Baramulla youth dies playing cricket in Anantnag; Governor grieved

Anantnag: A young cricketer hailing from Baramulla died after being hit by cricket ball on the neck, during a match being played in Anantnag Thursday.
Officials said that Jahangir Ahmad War, 19, resident of Goshbugh Pattan in Baramulla, was struck in the neck by a ball while playing a match organized by Youth Services and Sports department of the state government.
As per an official in the district administration the match was being played at a sports stadium in Nanil village of Anantnag, between teams of Baramulla and Budgam. “The boy was batting when a ball hit him in the neck and he fell unconscious,” they said.
Jahangeer was rushed to the nearby Public Health Centre (PHC) in Mattan where he was declared brought dead.
Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed grief and shock over the unfortunate death of the young cricketer and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin.
In a condolence message, Governor conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar, who also holds the charge of Sports department, termed the incident as unfortunate.
The Advisor directed the Youth Services & Sports department to provide all possible help and support to the bereaved family.
An official statement said the player was fully equipped with protective gears including helmet when the ball hit him.
