Anti rabies vaccines not available at hospitals, patients suffering

Baramulla: Unavailability of anti-rabies vaccines at health centres and hospitals in northern Kashmir is creating problems for patients, even as a number of dog bites are reported in the area.
Sources said that from past one month the anti-rabies injections are not available at government run hospitals in most areas of north Kashmir including Baramulla, Sopore, Handwara and Langate.
They added that the vital drugs are also not available in open markets due to which people have to visit Srinagar.
In Langate, locals said that over one dozen persons were injured by stray dogs, but from past two days anti-rabies injections were not available even in markets. Similarly dozens of dog bite victims are visiting SDH Sopore, district hospital Baramulla and other primary health centres but return disappointed due to shortage of anti rabies injection which is vital to control the lethal rabies infection.
A senior official in the Health department said that they have forwarded dozens of requests to senior officials including to Director Health Services, but the drugs have not been supplied.
