Stolen money recovered partly
Baramulla: Police has arrested five persons including an employee of state cable car corporation said to be involved in burglary of Rs 51 lakh from the Gulmarg Gondola office.
From the stolen amount, Rs 34 lakh cash have also been recovered, police said.
In a press conference at Gulmarg, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Abdul Qayoom said police arrested a suspect after extensive surveillance of CCTV footage after the burglary in the night of June 23/24.
The suspect, Bashir Ahmad Shah alias MLA, resident of Gund Dalwach, on sustained interrogation, confessed to the crime and gave out names of accomplices, including an employee of Gondola project, police said.
Police identified the four other accused as Abdul Ahad Ganai, resident of Hardichloo, (employee), Abdul Majeed Lone, resident of Chanpora, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat, resident of Hardichloo, and Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh resident of Chuntipathri.
SSP Qayoom said cash amounting to Rs 39 lakh has been recovered from the accused.
The Gondola project employee, Abdul Ahad, has been named as the mastermind of the burglary, who hatched the whole plan and provided vital information to the group on the layout of the cash room, access and execution plan.
SSP said that two of the accused, Imtiyaz Ahmad and Abdul Majeed have several FIRs registered against them for burglaries in the area.
Officials of Gulmarg Gondola project accompanied police official in the presser. .
