‘Empowering youth cornerstone of our agenda’

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday asserted that the cornerstone of the party’s development programme is to empower the State’s youth.
“Once in power, the party will prioritise implementing gender neutral and youth focused policies and programmes,” Ex MLA Habbakadal Shameema Firdous said while addressing a women’s wing convention here at party headquarters.
“The past few years has seen abject lack of initiatives by the government towards emancipation of youth. Youth policy is cross-sectorial that involves effective investment in a number of different areas such as employment, education, leisure. Besides that the need of the hour is to give wings to the aspirations of youth by providing them safe and secure environment to peruse their vocation. This unfortunately was not on the agenda of the previous BJP-PDP led government,” she said.
Shameema said the youth have suffered immensely due to “maladministration” of former PDP-BJP government.
While exuding confidence into the women’s functionaries, she said, “The functionaries should enthusiastically promote the party programme. The young woman functionaries will have to play a pivotal part in mobilising the youth of state.”
She said the people of the State especially the youth have pinned high hopes on Omar Abdullah and “it is our duty to strengthen the efforts of Omar Sahib”.
“By the grace of God and with the active participation of youth, we will be able to push the youth of the State to safer shores,” she said.
Shameema said the young girls of the State are beset with depression as are their male counterparts. “The failure of the Governor administration to create jobs in the State has added to the rising woes of our youth including girls,” she said.
She highlighted the pro-youth policies of NC-led government said that schemes like SKEWPY and seed capital fund had revolutionised the creation of jobs for youth.
Whatever good was achieved by the former NC government was put into a chasm by former BJP-PDP regime.
Shameema urged the incumbent governor to rejuvenate the “youth-friendly” SKEWPY, UDAAN and Himayat schemes of former Omar Abdullah-led government.
