DG Social Welfare reviews progress of departmental schemes in Anantnag

ANANTNAG: Director General (DG) Social Welfare Ruksana Gani chaired a meeting at Dak Bungalow Khanabal on Saturday to review scheme-wise progress of the Social Welfare Department, Anantnag.
The District Social Welfare Officer, Dr Peerzada Farhat Ahmad, through a power point presentation informed the DG about the performance of the department and said that under ISSS, a total of 30,413 beneficiaries are at present provided financial assistance at the rate of Rs 1,000 per head per month. These include 8,741 beneficiaries under OAP, 1,1810 under WID and 9,862 under PSP. He also informed the meeting that under the state Marriage Assistance Scheme, 2,073 cases of the district have been sanctioned, out of which 1,657 beneficiaries have been provided Marriage Assistance amounting to Rs 6.80 crore up to the end of March 2019. Furthermore, 415 cases are under the final phase of sanction.
The DG asked the officers to ensure a people-friendly approach in their public dealings. She also asked for identifying the beneficiaries in consultation with PRI’s. The DG also directed the officers to ensure transparency in the department and to look into complaints raised by deserving people at various forums. She also directed the officers to identify staff members to be imparted computer training.
The meeting was attended by Assistant Director Schemes, other officers from the Directorate of Social Welfare and all Tehsil Social Welfare officers of district Anantnag.
Later, the DG along with senior officers of the department visited District Social Welfare Office Anantnag and the orphanage home at Mattan. She also visited Nanil and identified the five-Kanal land where an old-age home and a children’s home will be constructed.
