Return home: Kupwara family’s passionate plea to militant son

BARAMULLA: The family of a Kupwara youth, who was missing since past two days and has reportedly joined militant ranks, has appealed their son to return home.
Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, 24, son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, resident of Gulgam village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara after returning home from his Photostat shop at Gulgam on June 11, informed his mother Sharifa Begum that he is going to Kupwara market to purchase some goods for shop but did not return home since then, his family told Kashmir Reader.
“The next day, on June 12, Wednesday, there was transporters’ strike and we thought he (Imtiyaz) might have visited some other place. However when he didn’t return home till evening, we visited police station Kupwara and filed a missing report,” Imtiyaz’s father said.
“On Sunday, we saw on social media the picture of our son holding AK-47 rifle,” Mir said. “We are unable to come to terms with whatever has happened.”
On the picture that went viral was written that Imtiyaz had joined militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen on of June 12 with the code name Moin-ul-Islam.
At the home of Ghulam Nabi Mir, the scenario was no less than a condolence meeting. All the relatives and friends had assembled and the mother, father and other family members were seen crying.
On the occasion, Ghulam Nabi Mir appealed his son to return home.
“We have no information when and how he joined militant outfit, but we appeal government agencies to bring him back. We appeal militants to send him back as his mother is sick and I am also not able to work,” Mir said.
The mother and other women present at the house were crying and appealed Imtiyaz to come back and leave the path of violence.
Imtiyaz, who is Hafiz-e-Qur’an and has diploma in computer studies, has two elder sisters and a younger brother. His father is a government employee in public health engineering (PHE) department.
A senior police officer while talking to Kashmir Reader said, “We saw the picture of Imtiyaz on social media and we have started investigation.”
