Burglar gang busted in Srinagar, 5 arrested

SRINAGAR: Police have arrested five suspected burglars allegedly involved in several burglaries of godowns in Srinagar.
Addressing a press conference here, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar Haseeb Mughal said that May 27, police received a complaint regarding a burglary case at ITC distribution store situated at Badhi Nand Singh opposite Tattoo Ground Batmaloo
“We have arrested suspects from three districts include Budgam, Baramulla and Srinagar district. During the questioning the suspects have accepted that they were involved in many robbery cases,” Mughal said
He said that the gang used special tools like bolt cutters and other equipments to break and open the locks and get access to godowns without creating much noise. The gang was technically updated and used to take CCTV and electronic surveillance equipment along with them to destroy any sort of video evidence from the place.
Police identified the arrested persons as Mohammad Yaseen Hajam, resident of Trikolbal Pattan, Muzaffar Ahmad Dar , resident of Hanjiwera Pattan, Altaf Ahmad Mir, resident Khumani Chowk Bemina, Irfan Ahmad Nagar, resident of Saida Kada Srinagar and Serwar Hussain Bhat, resident of Labartal Budgam.
“Stolen property worth several lakhs has been recovered on the disclosure of the arrested accused so far and vehicles used in the commission of crimes have also been seized. The arrested accused have disclosed their involvement in various other thefts and burglaries within the district,” Mughal said
The recoveries include copper utensils, electric/ electronic appliances, cigarettes of different brands worth several lakhs. The seized vehicles include a Scorpio DL43CNB 5501, Santro JKOIR 2266, Honda City DL7CF 8139 and MarutiDL3CAD 8969.
He said further investigations are on and more arrests and recoveries are expected.
