Contractual lecturers demand continuation of their services

SRINAGAR: The contractual lectures from Kashmir on Monday staged a protest demonstration here demanding continuation of their services.
Scores of 10+2 Contractual lectures from various districts of Kashmir valley assembled here in press enclave shouting slogans in favour of their demands.
The protesting contractual teachers said that if the government can’t regularise them, they should continue their services till final list of lecturers will be declared.
Tariq Banday, one of the protesting lecture, from Kupwara district said: “We are working in the education department and have qualified the written examination conducted by the department three times, but every year the department re-conducts the examination which leads to the mental torture with us.”
He said they were continued by the SAC decision 84/8/2019 dated 8th March 2019 in which it is mentioned that the services of the contractual lecturers are continued up to 30-06-2019. “But the department issued written examination notice some days earlier and due to our protest it was postponed,” Banday said.
President of the Union, Gurjeet Singh said in year 2003 a policy was framed by the government through order no 1301-Edu of 2003 in which it is clearly mentioned that the lecturers appointed on academic arrangements against this order will be regularised after 3 years. “In 2003, the term academic arrangement was changed to contractual by order 1584-Edu of 2003 in which it is mentioned that all such arrangements will be on contractual basis in future,” he said.
“In 2009, GAD department has issued an order in which it is mentioned that the person’s appointed on contractual basis are continued till further orders through order No 1328-GAD of 2003,” he said.
The protesting lecturers said that they don’t have any problem with the exams, “but some of them are not ready to face the screening test again fearing they may not qualify it again.”
