Cabbies observe shutdown to protest bad roads in Baramulla

BARAMULLA: Due to the condition of the road in Kandi belt of Baramulla, the area’s cab drivers on Monday observed a complete shutdown and stopped the cab service from Baramulla for the whole belt, resulting in people facing a lot of problems. Among those affected were mostly students and government employees, who visit Baramulla town every day.
The cab drivers said that the condition of the road from Baramulla to Kandi Nowgam, Sultanpora, Chandosa and other places is so bad and cut through by thousands of trenches and other potholes that there is no place left on it for vehicles to run.
Nazir Ahmad, a Sumo driver, said, “The condition of the road is worst in this area. We met with different officials, including Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, and they promised us that they will make sure the condition of road is improved, but a year has passed and no change has happened. That is why we stopped our services on Monday to register our protest,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner Baramulla could not be contacted by this reporter.
