For Rs 80 crore, Govt leases out 60 kanals of land in Srinagar to CRPF for 99 years

Srinagar May 16: The Jammu and Kashmir government has leased out 60 kanals of state land in Srinagar outskirts to the CRPF for almost a century in return of Rs 80 crore.
As per an order issued Wednesday by DC Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhry, the 7.5 acre land (60 kanals) at Zakura belonging to the JK Horticulture Produce Marketing Corporation (JKHPMC) will be handed over to CRPF on Friday at 11:30 am.

The sanction to the handing over of the land, the order said, had been given by the Revenue Department on March 6 this year.
The order said that the land had been handed over “on lease/transfer basis for a period of forty years (extendable upto 99 years) for establishment of a battalion camping site of CRPF against a total consideration of Rs 79,66,40,000”.
As per the DC’s order, IG CRPF Srinagar had asked for demarcation and handing over of the land on May 8.

An official in the JKHPMC said the Zakura land had been under CRPF’s occupation “for the last three decades”.
The Revenue Department’s March order sanctioning the land transfer, the official said, had been approved by the State Administrative Council “a couple of months ago”.
