Srinagar: While expressing shock over the Sumbal rape incident, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) said had culprits of such heinous crimes been punished sternly in the past, such tragedy would not have taken place.
Giving example of Kathua tragedy, a spokesperson of JKDFP in a statement said “majority of Kashmiri youth are living pious lives but some black-sheep are bringing bad name for the whole society”.
“What happened in Sumbal is a shame for all of us. We must hang our heads in shame and think seriously how such heartless criminals are reined, who are time and again injuring our soul and heart. It is important to give this issue a serious thought and decide the future course of action,” he said.
“We cannot escape by throwing responsibilities on one another however, if police will perform its role positively and judiciary takes pains in conducting trials in such cases and issue stringent punishments for culprits, there is every possibility that such shameful acts can be stopped,” he added.
The spokesperson expressed hope that the law enforcement agencies will realise their responsibilities and come forward with action instead of paperwork and mere statements.
