Srinagar: A 23-year-old youth was injured critically as clashes and protests rocked Kashmir valley against rape of minor girl in Sumbal.
Reports said that one protester received bullet injuries in Mirgund area of Pattan and was shifted to a Srinagar hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.
Reports said that a peaceful protest march led by social activist and senior Advocate Syed Mujeeb u Rehman was held in Anantnag district of south Kashmir demanding justice for 3 year old rape survivor from Sumbal.
The protest was attended by scores of civil society members and advocates. The protest march started from court complex upto DC office.
Reports of protests were received from Kupwara, Sopore, Pattan Chanabal, Mirgund, Hygam, Sumbal, Utter Kreeri, Baramulla.
Demanding stern action, the protesters mostly students from various schools, Higher Secondaries, colleges against the accused involved in the minor’s rape.
In wake of the law and order problem in several parts of the northern district, the authorities have suspended train services from Srinagar to Baramulla as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, all shops and business establishments are closed in Sopore and its outskirts while as traffic movement was thin on roads as well.
Reports of shutdown were also received from Budgam town, Khumani-chowk, Magam and its adjoining areas.
