Srinagar: Traffic on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway has remained blocked since early morning hours on Monday amid fierce clashes between protesters and government forces at some places.
Clashes were reported from Mirgund, Pattan, Singhpora and Hanjiveera areas on the highway against the rape of a minor girl in Sumbal area of Bandipora district last week. The highway blockade has left hundreds of commuters stranded.
Meanwhile, reports said that protests erupted at various places in Baramulla demanding stern punishment to the accused. The protesters assembled at Hygam in Baramulla and blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla highway for several hours.
