Srinagar Master Plan 2035 has been approved, HC told

Srinagar: The Srinagar Master Plan 2015-2035 has been approved by the State Administrative Council (SAC) vide notification no. SRO 160, dated 7 March, 2019, the Chief Town Planner Kashmir informed the High Court on Friday.
The status report filed by the Chief Town Planner in PIL no.05/2013 in case titled Mujeeb Andrabi Vs State of J&K & Ors, stated that the SAC was pleased to convey the approval of Master Plan (2015-2035), Srinagar Metropolitan Region (SMR), to Administrative Department which is Housing & Urban Development Department vide SAC decision no.40/5/2019 dated 13 February, 2019.
The status report also revealed that the new master plan for Srinagar stands notified by the administrative department vide SRO no.160 dated 7 March, 2019.
“Approved copies of Master Plan-2035 have also been made available to the institutions/ offices in both soft and hard copy for the information and inspection of general public viz Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Bandipora and Pulwama. Also copies have been forwarded to Vice Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority (SDA), Commissioner Municipal Corporation Srinagar (SMC),” the report mentioned.
A copy of the approved Master Plan comprising Report and Proposed Land Use Plan was also submitted before the court.
The High Court had earlier directed authorities to finalise the Srinagar Master plan 2015-2035 with utmost urgency.
The court had remarked that Srinagar city had seen devastating floods in 2014 and it was necessary that the master plan be notified and enforced so that citizens’ life and property could be saved.
“It cannot be denied that it (Master Plan) has to be finalised with utmost urgency so that the deluge of 2014 like incidents can be stopped,” the court had said.
