Promote jute, cotton bags: Div Com Jammu asks business houses

JAMMU: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma Friday asked business houses to sell their products in jute and cotton bags and discourage use of banned polythene material.
He stated this while chairing a meeting with officers of Handloom and Handicraft to review employment generation programmes. The meet was also attended by member of business associations.
Verma also asked the business houses to extend marketing support to artisans and SHGs sell their products in a hassle free manner.
Joint Director Handloom, Kanta Devi displayed various hand made products by women Self Help Groups including cotton handbags, file covers, shawls etc.
The officers of Handicraft department apprised Verma of the products being made by the different units besides raising other issues concerning further streamlining of working of the department.
Verma asked the Handloom department to develop cotton and jute bags and other items to discourage use of banned polythene material. He also asked the Handicraft department to encourage the interested and potential persons for adopting production of bamboo products as entrepreneurship.
