World Red Cross Day observed across Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Kashmir branch on Wednesday organised a programme at the Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh, Srinagar to observe World Red Cross Day.

Director School Education, Kashmir, Mohammad Younis Malik who was the chief guest said that the need is to encourage volunteerism among the students and a club of volunteer students should be established in every school across the Kashmir division.

Director Disaster Management, Amir Ali said that the mission of the Red Cross society is to inspire, encourage and initiate humanitarian activities in order to minimize human sufferings. He said Red Cross Society is the largest organization which inculcates voluntarism spirit among the people.

Secretary, Kashmir Red Cross Society on the occasion highlighted the historical importance of the world Red Cross day.

Master trainer IPS Bali on the occasion demonstrated the method of providing First Aid to the victims.

The function was attended by General Secretary, IRCS, member national managing body, IRCS, teachers, students, volunteers, media persons and others.

Meanwhile, District Red Cross Committee Kupwara organized a grand programme to celebrate World Red Cross Day at town hall Kupwara.

Chief Education Officer Kupwara, students of various educational Institutions and other officials participated in the programme.

ADC Kupwara, while highlighting the importance of District Red Cross Committee (DRC) said that the committee has an important role to play in natural disasters.

On the occasion, various speakers and students from different institutions highlighted the importance of day and role of red cross, while it awards were presented to the students who spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, a day-long function was organized by Chief Education Office Budgam in collaboration with District Red Cross Society Budgam and Chief Medical Officer Budgam.

School children of different schools of the district participated in the function. On the occasion, importance of the day was discussed by the debating competition in which scores of children participated. Along with competition, a blood donation camp was also organised.

Speaking on the occasion the District Development Commissioner, Budgam Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar highlighted the significance of the day and purpose of the Red Cross Society. She also appreciated the organizers and appealed students to cherish the noble ideals and principles of good life as espoused by the late founder of the society. She further said, District Red Cross Society collecting voluntary contributions from the people especially employees is helping thousands of needy and downtrodden sections of the society particularly widows, orphans and disaster effected.

CEO Budgam, CMO Budgam, DEPO Budgam, principals of schools, teachers and other officials were also present along with hundreds of school children.
