Highway Toll Tax: Shah Faesal criticises move, says will impact local economy

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM) chief Shah Faesal on Wednesday criticised the government for levying heavy road tax on Srinagar-Jammu highway at newly established toll plaza at Charsoo and said it would have an impact on the local economy.
In a statement, Faesal called upon the government to bring in clarity as to how this new tax will be implemented in view of the concessions given to State under the GST by which toll is to be collected at Lakhanpur only.
He requested the government to understand local sensitivities in view of the ongoing turmoil and “not make policies that are seen as deliberate attempts to harass Kashmiris”.
National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on Tuesday started levying taxes on the vehicles moving on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway at toll plaza set up at Charsoo, Kachachkot in south Kashmir. Every vehicle passing through the toll plaza will be charged Rs 85. Therefore, Rs 170 will be charged per day on any vehicle moving to and fro on the highway.
