Gazettes discontinued, JKBOSE warns schools of fake mark sheets

SRINAGAR: With the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) doing away with the printed result gazette of annual examinations for the last few years now, some students are managing admissions to institutions by producing fake marks certificates as the school authorities no longer have the printed gazette with which to cross-check the results.
This has prompted the JKBOSE to issue strict instructions to the institutions. The board is now registering the students online, so as to keep a database for cross-checking the results at the time of admission.
An order issued by the JKBOSE on April 24 said that authorities at some higher secondary schools in the valley granted admission to candidates “who have not actually passed their board exams… without cross checking their result with the board due to non availability of printed result gazette”.
An official at the JKBOSE told Kashmir Reader that the board had done away with the printed result gazettes around four years ago.
Earlier, the board would print the result gazettes and circulate them to concerned offices including schools for their records.
Passing strict instructions to the school authorities, the last month’s circular further read, “As such, in order to avoid the admission on the basis of production of fake certificates, the circular instructions for strict compliance are circulated for the information of all the heads of the High/ Higher Secondary institutions of Kashmir Division for cross checking and verifying the results of the candidates from the BOSE website, www.jkbose.ac.in, at the time of admission of the students in their institutions”.
The instructions were issued by the JKBOSE to schools after the board reported “a couple of” cases wherein the candidates had produced fake marks cards for admission to schools, a top official at the JKBOSE told Kashmir Reader.
One of the accused candidates, the official said, had even been booked by the Crime Branch (CB).
“The CB brought it into the notice recently. Besides, we reported another such incident wherein a candidate had produced fake marks card for getting admission in Class 10 at a school,” the official added.
A top official at the JKBOSE said that the examination wing of the board had pleaded with the administration to print the result gazettes besides keeping the results available online.
“When we print hard copies, the schools at least have a record of the results with them,” he added.
The official said that in order to keep an online database, there will be an online registration of the students with the JKBOSE from now on.
The call to print the result gazette was to be taken by the Joint Secretary-Secrecy of the board.
The Joint Secretary-Secrecy, Mohammad Arif Akhoon, however did not answer repeated calls by this reporter.
